For Immediate Release:
May 25, 2017
This year, Zahal Shalom is celebrating its 25th year of operation in Bergen County.
This June, Zahal Shalom families will welcome our 25th delegation of disabled Israeli veterans into their homes. Since 1993 a delegation selected by an Israeli Disabled Veterans Organization is brought to Northern New Jersey as part of their rehabilitation program to create bonds between Israelis and their American hosts.
Each veteran stays in the home of a host family. A buddy family acts as a co-host, helping wherever needed, to assure the soldiers have backup. Soldiers and their hosts spend 2 weeks touring the metropolitan area and Washington D.C. They also participate in special programs within our Jewish community. Our slogan, “In Our Homes for Two Weeks. In our Hearts for a Lifetime.” is so true and sums up our experience with hosting these amazing heroes. Many participating families stay in touch with their veterans for years to come and visit with them when in Israel.
On Thursday, June 15, 2017 Zahal Shalom of Bergen County will celebrate its 25th Anniversary at a special event at Temple Israel, Jewish Community Center (Ridgewood, N.J.) beginning at 7:00 PM. This annual fundraiser includes an opportunity to meet and speak, one-on-one with the veterans. In addition, you can participate in silent auction, bidding on everything from bottles of Wine to restaurant gift certificates and locally provided services.
“Raising money is key to our organization, It is very costly to bring veterans into the program, and we rely one hundred percent on local donations” stated Scott Krim, director of the program.
The cost of attending the 25th Anniversary Celebration is $60 per person. To sponsor a table (10 people) the cost is $500. The deadline to reserve a table is June 6, 2017. Individual tickets may be purchased at the event, but we request reservations by June 10, 2017.
